Module 1 – 6 hours: Introduction and Creation of Personal Wellness Plan, Purpose and Usage of Plan, Prevention/Intervention/Crisis Plan, Creating a Toolbox, Tools for Your Box, Action Steps, Daily Maintenance Plan, Medication Monitoring, Early Warning Signs and Action Steps, Observers, “The Word or Phrase,” and Using Your Support System.
Homework assignment: Construct your toolbox and begin placing in tools, label your Wellness Plan Notebook and begin your Plan.
Module 2 – 6 hours: Major Psychiatric Conditions, Addictive Disorders, Co-occurring Disorders, Warning Signs, Triggers, Symptoms, Pre-crisis, Managing Crisis and Emergency Situations, Attitude Changing, Scaling Symptoms and Action Plans as Symptoms Increase, Coping Skills, Meditation, Mindful Coping Skills, Crisis Prevention, Crisis Intervention, Post Crisis and Building a Network of Support, Family Support, and Advanced Directives.
Homework assignment: Identify early warning signs and triggers, and write an action plan for each. Identify the key components in your crisis plan.
Module 3 – 6 hours: Common Situations that occur in Recovery and Recovery Settings, Challenging Situations, Understanding and Defusing Triggered Consumers, How to De-escalate a Situation, Techniques and Tools to Calm a Triggered Person, Common Crisis Situations, Principle of Crisis to Care, Understanding and Handling First Responders, Providing Support to a Peer in Crisis, Handling Family Members, Documenting Incidents and Crisis Situations, and Post - Crisis Debriefing.
Homework assignment: Write your pre-crisis plan, denote your word or phrase on a 3x5 card, write a draft of your crisis and post crisis plan.
Module 4 – 6 Hours: Recognizing Symptoms, Understanding Stress, Using Tools to Manage and De-stress, Recognizing Regression and De-compensation, Tools and Strategies for Handling Someone who is Symptomatic and near Crisis or in Crisis, Prevention and Intervention Approaches, Direct Interventions, Behavioral Health and Co-occurring Physical Emergencies, How to Handle and What to Say to First Responders, Making Crisis and Intervention Plans with Others, How to Keep a Crisis Situation as Safe as Possible for All, and What is Your Crisis Plan.
Telling your story
Completion Certificates are provided after each training module. This training series is designed to have multiple entry and exit points with the ability to have web-x instruction and computer-based instruction to enhance the training and meet multiple modalities and needs. Authorization numbers to Web-X are provided so trainees may refresh their coursework as needed. The Training is signed off by Roberta L. Howard. Both she and NAZCARE Trainers may sign off on State forms for Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and the Veterans Affairs and Administration. (Veteran’s scholarships are available) Please note that we strongly suggest trainees be qualified to meet the State Standards needed to qualify to provide direct services in your State, however, this training proves valuable in understanding people in recovery including one self.
