- Module 1- 4 hours: Recovery Definition and 12 Principles of Recovery, 12 Points of Wellness, Expectations, Role of a Mentor, Skills Matrix for Mentors, History of Mental Health, Modeling Recovery and the Mentor – Mentee Relationship, Member Contact, Client’s Rights, Providing Direct Peer Support, Resources, Specific Peer Skills, Confidentiality, Introduction to Ethics and Boundaries, Introduction to Scaling Wellness, Introduction to Documentation Standards, and Listening Skills.
- Module 2 – 4 hours: Concepts and skills in Personal Dignity & Respect, Active Listening Skills, Verbal and Non-verbal Communication, Clarification Skills, Self-Care and Self-Directed Recovery, Boundaries: Creating, Setting and Enforcing, Empathy versus Rescuing & Enabling, Building Cooperation, Empowerment, Cultural Diversity, History to present-day Treatment of Mental and Chemical Dependency Disorders, Mental Health Infrastructure, Recovery Dictionary and use of Recovery Language, Family Services and Family Wellness Plans, and Stigma Reduction.
- Module 3 – 4 hours: How to Empower and reduce Enabling, Supportive vs. Defensive Climates, The Rescue Triangle, Strength Perspectives and Strength Building Skills, Defense/Survival Mechanisms, Shifting Concepts/Re-labeling, Stopping the Negative Self Talk, Holistic Health Concepts, Advanced Scaling and Setting up the Scale Indicators, Veteran Specific Issues, and Preparing to Tell Your Story.
- Module 4 – time 4 hours: Concepts of Psycho-social Rehabilitation, Solution Focused Interviews, Questioning Techniques, Introduction to Motivational Interviewing, Characteristics of Well-formed “SMART” goals and outcomes, Personal Goal Setting, Decision Making Tools and Skills, Next Steps & Our Plan, Closure for an Interview, Challenges, Readiness to Work, American with Disabilities Act, The Act of Doing Something Meaningful Every day, Self Esteem Tools, Wellness Plan for Work, and How to gain support around work related issues.
Completion Certificates are provided after each training module. This training series is designed to have multiple entry and exit points with the ability to have web-x instruction and computer-based instruction to enhance the training and meet multiple modalities and needs. Authorization numbers to Web-X are provided so trainees may refresh their coursework as needed. The Training is signed off by Roberta L. Howard. Both she and NAZCARE Trainers may sign off on State forms for Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, and the Veterans Affairs and Administration. (Veteran’s scholarships are available) Please note that we strongly suggest trainees be qualified to meet the State Standards needed to qualify to provide direct services in your State, however, this training proves valuable in understanding people in recovery including one self.
