Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do you distribute or administer medications?

A  No. Adults applying to our transitional housing program need to be independent in self administration of medication. We will however, work with the applicant and their case manager on an individual basis.

Q. Is there cable in the units?

A. No. Tenants can have televisions in their individual units. In order to encourage socialization and prevent isolation, cable is only provided in the common living room.

Q. Is there a phone in each unit?

A. No. We have found that most tenants prefer to use cell phones. There is a phone and answering machine available to all tenants in the kitchen area.

Q. Does the rent include food?

A. No. Each tenant is responsible for purchasing their own food. Tenants are given space in the kitchen cupboards and refrigerator. Each tenant is encouraged to mark their food with permanent marker. We do not have a problem with food being stolen. If for some reason food is borrowed, tenants are asked to let the individual know and replace the item.

Q. Does the rent include utilities?

A. Yes. Utilities are included in the monthly rent.

Q. Can I have visitors or friends come over?

A. Yes. Visitors and friends are encouraged and allowed.  We ask that you remember that this is private residential housing. Visitors are asked to wait in the common living room area and another tenant will get the requested tenant.

Q. What about security?

A. Hope House is located in a safe community, with little to no crime. For the safety and security of all tenants, the front and back doors are locked at 10:00 pm. All tenants have their own keys and are encouraged to carry them in the event they are out past 10:00 pm.

Q. Are children allowed?

A. Because Hope House is dormitory style housing, we do not have the accommodations for children to stay overnight. Tenants with children can arrange for day time visitation with the House Manager. Such arrangements must be made in advance.

Q. Can tenants have a microwave in their unit?

A. No. A microwave is available to all tenants in the kitchen. Cooking is not allowed in the individual units.  Part of our housing program is teaching life skills and encouraging socialization.
